EMDR

Traditional talk therapy not working for you ?

EMDR is a therapeutic approach used in counseling. Often, we use it when traditional talk therapy doesn’t work at relieving the troubling symptoms you’re having. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (We know, it’s a mouth full) or EMDR for short is considered one of the top therapy approaches for addressing trauma. But, some say that trauma is really anything that causes you a lot of distress. Take a moment and think about something upsets you like your fear of flying, or that friend not suddenly not talking to you. That uncomfortable feeling is what distress feels like. That’s what many would consider to be trauma. Therefore, EMDR is really useful in treating things like anxiety, addiction, depression, performance issues, intimacy and sexual concerns, low self-esteem, and more.

People who seek us out for EMDR usually experience …

  • PTSD
  • Current or past trauma
  • Sexual trauma such as rape and sexual assault. This includes those gray areas where there’s confusion regarding if it was sexual assault or not.
  • Domestic violence or Intimate Partner Violence
  • Low self-esteem
  • Bullying
  • Sexual Addiction or out of control sexual behavior
  • Grief and loss
  • Performance anxiety
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Sexual challenges: sexual pain, vaginismus, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, orgasm difficulty, low libido, negative sexual messages, sexual rejection

EMDR is a top therapy approach…

EMDR is seen as a therapy that can help you process distressing experiences faster than other types of therapies. What’s cool about EMDR is that it allows the brain to begin to heal itself. This allows the distressing information or memories to be processed and inform you rather than cause you further distress. That would be nice, right? Clients tell us all the time that they don’t understand how it completely works but they love the benefits they experience from it. We get it. It’s weird… and also pretty dang amazing!

We’re currently offering online therapy in Ohio, online therapy in Kentucky, and Online Therapy in Indiana.

If you’re concerned about the effectiveness of online therapy, don’t be. Research indicates that online therapy can be just as effective as traditional in-person therapy. Sometimes simply knowing that you can access high-quality counseling services from the comfort of your home offers you the security to open up and be vulnerable with your therapist. At our counseling practice, our therapists are ready and able to help you work on the issues that matter most to you via our secure online therapy platform. Please reach out if you are feeling uncomfortable about the online therapy approach. We would be happy to have you try out our Telehealth platform during a 15-minute free consultation session.
