Marriage and Family Therapist Intern
Are you face to face with a major change in your life, or maybe feeling “stuck” for other reasons that feel out of your control? The only reliable aspect of living through the human experience is change. Unavoidable transitions in life present challenges, stress, uncertainty and fear, but also provide opportunity for individual growth. You have the power of choice; do nothing = life remains the same. Or take one small step today toward a healthier, happier, more fulfilling tomorrow. It will be my privilege to collaborate, explore and walk alongside you in your pursuit of deeper understanding, generational insight, healing and personal growth.
While reaching out for help can feel uncomfortable…even scary for some, I believe everyone who seeks mental and emotional guidance from a passionate and dedicated mental health clinician will experience the positive changes they hope for if they truly want it and are willing and action-oriented. As a naturally empathic, socially intuitive and respectfully curious person, it is my mission to create an authentic and open client-therapist relationship where you will feel seen, understood, comfortable to be your true self, and safe to speak honestly without judgment. Through compassionate questioning, I hope to learn about your story, values, perceptions and worldview to co-create goals and a treatment plan that best meets your individual needs.
Personal experience is multifaceted and complex, circumstances are unique and challenges are subjective, requiring a personalized therapeutic approach. Collaborate with me to create more beneficial interactions and a more positive narrative for your life, and together we will craft a strength-based plan to equip you with the tools to successfully maintain a healthier, happier and more fulfilling existence.
As a former high school Language Arts teacher, Lauren created a safe, respectful and open classroom environment where many of her students confided poignant challenges in their personal lives through their writing and conversation. During her few years working with adolescents, several of her students required inpatient psychological evaluation, monitoring and treatment, some of which lost their battle against the invisible enemy that is mental illness. This experience inspired Lauren to pursue a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy to gain the expertise and skill set to guide teens and their family through the challenges and uncertainties of adolescence.
In her free time Lauren enjoys gardening, going on runs with her dogs, and imagining what she might do if she had more free time. Mostly, she attempts to practice the art of being present with her family, which typically entails:
- reptile hunting, creek romping, and/or bug collecting outdoor expeditions with her 8 and 6-year-old boys
- Disney soundtrack dance and sing-along sessions led by her 2-year-old daughter
- grasping every second she can to hang with her adolescent daughter who will soon be West Coast bound for college
- and sometimes she goes on dates with her husband
Quote: “In the depths of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer…No matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.” -Albert Camus
